Advanced Metamaterial lens

Left-handed metamaterial array configuration, ...Image via Wikipedia
Metamaterials is whats used in this advanced type of lens. It is made using a class of man-made substances called metamaterials. It may eventually become a replacement for conventional lens, by combining sharper images with a 180-degree wide angle field of view.

"Radar systems and camera systems -even simple personal camera systems have the potential to benefit from a lens design similar to what we have shown,"said Nathan Kundtz, an electrical and computer engineer at Duke University.

Metamaterials represent a combination of materials that create new effects not normally seen in the natural world. The metamaterial lens measures just 4 inches by 5 inches with less than an inch height, and consists of 1,000 pieces of fiberglass materials etched with copper. The pieces sit in a parallel rows that can precisely direct passing electromagnetic rays - in this case microwaves.

Researchers at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina used the metamaterials to recreate the effect of a spherical Gradient index (GRIN) lens, which uses ball shape to continually bend the path of passing light or other electromagnetic waves.

"Instead of using the surfaces of the lens to control rays, we studied altering the material between the surfaces," Kundtz said. "If you can control the volume, or bulk, of the lens, you gain much more freedom and control to design a lens to meet specific needs."

A GRIN lens can eliminate the image distortions that arise from other lens shapes that only bend the path of light where it enters and exits the lens. But its spherical shape creates images that are incompatible with the flat detectos arrays used in digital cameras and many imaging devices.

By contrast, the new metamaterial lens may work in such devices because it creates a flat image. David Smith, head of the Duke University lab responsible for the recent breakthrough, described the new lens as "GRIN on steroids."

The Duke University researchers previously used a similar metamaterial approach to demonstrate "invisibility cloak" that could deflect microwaves. But unlike the cloaking method, the team's new lens could soon find its way into consumer's hands.

Apart from all the best things you have loved in a Canon camera, this, is equipped with an Image Stabilizer, neat huh? Wait! There's more, the fact that this baby is one of the few that can shoot all the way up to ISO 1600. That will mean more grain definitely
but if you just stay at around ISO 800, then noise will be less a problem.

UPEK Makes SMB Security Simple

Fingerprint scanner at ticket purchase boothImage by gumption via Flickr
Security threats are a nuisance, but for SMB's, the implementation of security processes and technologies can be costly, time-consuming user-unfriendly. Passwords are a pain to use and vulnerable to compromise. Users must invent non-intuitive letter-symbol-number combinations, and often write them down on sticky notes or in a spreadsheet.

UPEK's goal is to make security as simple as the swipe of a finger. The company's Eikon Digital Privacy Manager is a USB fingerprint reader that makes the user's fingerprint the authentication component for IT security. IT managers can lower costs associated with password resets, better protect access to customer data, and meet new and growing regulatory compliance requirements.

Unlike a password that can be disclosed to another person, only the registered fingerprint of an authorized user can access a UPEK-secured network, desktop or laptop computer. The company's award-winning fingerprint authentication solution are used by many of the world's largest brands in PC's, portable storage devices, mobile phones, access to control equipment, and more.
UPEK's unique technology allows users ang folders, and launch applications, all with just the swipe of a finger.

Canon 450D Review

FilenameImage via Wikipedia
This is the Canon 450D. It's an upgraded version of the 400D, only this time it feels like a totally different cam.

Changes would include a SD card slot so you can save more pictures and utilize those old SD Memory card, a smaller but more powerful battery, and Live View enabled 3-inch LCD screen.

Though it looks similar to the 400D, with these upgrades, you would want to upgrade your old cam to this and go 450D.

Pacquiao VS Clotty

Today is the big day for the Filipino pound per pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao. He is going to be fighting Joshua Clotty in a 12 round match.

The fight is gonna held at The Dallas Cowboys Arena in Texas, USA. This fight has been rumored to be the last fight for Manny.

Who do you think will win the match? Pacquiao or Clotty? Both fighters have been proven to be a tough fighter, but Pacquiao had experiences of winning matches agains top fighters.

I think one thing to consider about Clotty is that he defeated Judah who defeated Floyd Mayweather.

We dont know yet since a lot of unexpected things are gonna happen in the ring.

But right now, i hope these fighters are gonna give a hell of a good fight.
